HOW DO I JOIN THE EL MONTE SHARKS AQUATICS CLUB AND WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

Every swimmer must try-out in order to join the swim team. Try-outs are conducted on a monthly basis and swimmers are required to dive in, demonstrate all four strokes used in competitive swimming and must be able to complete a full lap without stopping. To try-out for the Sharks swim team, please contact coaches in the Swim Team office at (626) 258-8693 or the Front Desk at (626) 580-2213 to schedule an appointment.

WHAT IS THE PRACTICE SCHEDULE?

The Sharks team is divided into two teams: Novice Team and USA Team. Coaches will place the swimmers in an appropriate team after try-outs.

Novice Team consists of swimmers with little or no competitive swim team experience. Training will mainly focus on technique refinement and occasional speed and endurance. Team practices 3 days per week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4:30-5:45pm.

USA Team consists of advanced swimmers training to become a USA certified Swimmer. Training will focus on technique, speed and endurance. Team practices in the water 5 days per week and dry-land 2 days per week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5:45-7:15pm and Tuesday, Thursday 5:00-7:00pm with dry-land workouts.

HOW MUCH IS THE MEMBERSHIP FEE? IS THERE A REGISTRATION FEE?

Novice Team: $64 monthly fee per swimmer
USA Team: $79 monthly fee per swimmer
One time $50 registration fee will apply to new year-round swimmers
Annual $50 registration fee will apply to seasonal (summer) swimmers
(Seasonal membership is for swimmers who do not swim year-round. High school swimmers are an exception to this rule)

AM I REQUIRED TO ATTEND ALL SCHEDULED PRACTICE?

Yes, all practices are mandatory. However, coaches understand swimmers have other commitments and/or school work. Should a swimmer miss practice, coaches must be notified prior to the start of practice. Missed practices may not become a frequent habit, it may result it membership suspension or possible termination.

ARE THERE ANY COMPETITION? IF SO, WHAT ARE THE COSTS?

Yes, the Sharks Aquatics Club is a competitive swim team and also part of USA swimming. Swimmers will be competing in sanctioned and non- sanctioned meets. Swimmers who are interested in participating in USA sanctioned meets must apply for USA swimming membership. A separate fee will apply for USA membership and parent/guardian is responsible for payments.

Coaches will notify parents and swimmers of any upcoming swim competitions. Costs for swim meets will vary depending on the hosting team. If a fee applies, it should be stated on the event forms and coaches will inform you of any fees as well.
